This is a Celtic/Pagan tradition which you may wish to choose as part of your wedding or instead of it.
It usually takes place in natural surroundings of your choice and the ceremony will be designed to meet your dreams, reflecting both of you & your belief systems. Our saying of ‘to tie the knot’ comes from handfasting ceremonies as coloured cords/ribbons are loosely tied/draped over the clasped clasped hands of the couple. Rings and vows are exchanged and it is possible to have bridesmaids, friends and family assisting if that is the couples’ wish.
I will ensure that this is a beautiful, unique ceremony that you will remember forever.
There are 3 forms of Handfasting which I will discuss with you so that you can choose which one meets your needs.
The Knot Ceremony which is a partial Handfasting often incorporated into the traditional Wedding Ceremony.
The One Year and One Day Handfasting. In this the couple take part in a ceremony which symbolises commitment but not a permanent one. Almost like an engagement as this is later followed by
A Full Celtic Handfasting where the couple return, repeat their vows only this time the cords/ribbons are tightly knotted to make the commitment binding & symbolises a promise of a permanent relationship.
The Handfasting Cords/Ribbons will be in the colours of your choice which I will discuss with you and they are yours to keep.
